The day i was introduced to finger paints, was the day that changed my life for the crazier. The media was the perfect mess of color, and to me, it was the equivalent of liquid crayons.
I thank my supportive friends and teachers for smiling at every doodle of oddity. But i also thank my mom who has not only accepted my green paint on the curtains and walls, but has learned to embrace the fact that the kitchen table would always have paint or glue sitting next to the salt and pepper.
I'm known for my faceless figures and ironically my painted faces. My faceless figures have always been the subject of my paintings. I've always liked the ambiguity of the face hoping people may project themselves into the painting. And the other reason for these faceless beings is,,, i can't paint or draw a faces :). Some friends describe these people as the video world slender man's family, but i see them as figures representing the individual or anyone who wants to be faceless,,, This year I've been working on a 2-D portfolio including photography of friends faces painted as if they were a canvass. Its such a fun project, i love the photography part, you can get so creative when your art can run or climb a tree. I wanted to focus on the idea of a face is a canvass, you share emotions thoughts and stories all in one expression. To paint faces would be difficult considering i couldn't paint faces on my faceless figures, so then i had to face the fact if i couldn't paint a face,,,, i would PAINT FACES! I'ts been one of my favorite projects. It includes some of my "favorite people ever" who i get to duplicate into art that i can take with me next year when we all part for colleges.
Some of my recently more eccentric ideas include dying fabrics with bleach (don't do this on the lawn,,,) baking wet paper in the oven (not my brightest moment) and attempting to build a kiln in your back yard fire pit (just because youtube says you can does not mean you should). So honestly the majority of my art was made by mistake. But these are some of my favorite pieces.
Make your voice seen, art is really a form of communication for things that can't always be put into words. My goal as an artist is to acquire the ability to express my views and ideas through art, and share them with people. They say a picture is worth a thousand words but i think art can make it a million.
